Letter from Kate Hoey MP – 14 December 2015
Dear Resident
I am writing to urge you to respond to the TFL consultation on Vauxhall Cross by e-mail as soon as possible. Although we are trying to have the date of the consultation extended from January 17th, TFL are pushing ahead with their plans. We all of course welcome the removal of the Gyratory but there is total rejection of the demolition of the Bus Station and its replacement by scattered bus stops, as the price to pay for this. No one outside the immediate area has been consulted despite the Bus Station being the second largest transport interchange in London. I can
only imagine the anger that will be felt by those who use the station to move easily from tube to bus or train each day when they find that this is all going to end.
There is also great uncertainty about the proposed tower blocks on the island site. Leaving one-way working around St Anne’s School is also a travesty, as it does not deliver full two-way working. TfL are refusing to consider Our Vauxhall’s more ambitious plan to make the whole area two way and green the area east of the railway viaduct, which would improve the quality of life for Vauxhall’s residents and cut pollution.
In my view rows of bus stops roadside are not a bus station and without doubt the needs of bus passengers have been hugely downgraded. The rather rosy picture created by Lambeth bears no relation to reality. The importance of Vauxhall Cross to the whole of London should mean that these changes become part of the Mayoral election discussions and not be rushed through in the next couple of months.
Can I urge you to email:
Leon Daniels (LeonDaniels@tfl.gov.uk),
Isabel Dedring (Isabel.dedring@london.gov.uk),
Nigel Hardy (Nigel.Hardy2@tfl.gov.uk), and
Cllr Jack Hopkins (Jhopkins@lambeth.gov.uk).
Do tell them what you think about the loss of the Bus Station and the need for an extension of the consultation. In the meantime I wish you all a very Happy Christmas.
Kate
