Doing up the Neighbourhood

A message from Lambeth Council about the

Oval Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme

Dear resident,

This is an opportunity to design your neighbourhood with friends, neighbours and Lambeth staff. In the spring we sent you postcard style questionnaires asking you what you liked and disliked about your streets. General issues raised from the Oval area were:

  • Street greening
  • Cycle parking
  • Secure cycle storage
  • Effective speed reducing measures
  • Traffic Calming
  • Bins

There will be a consultation in the early autumn, where all residents in the area will be given an opportunity to say which of the proposed improvements they prefer. There will be a statutory consultation and decision making process towards the end of the year.

How can you get involved?

Two local residents associations, TARA (Tradescant Road area) and IMPACT (Claylands Green area) have held events where residents showed their own photos of what they like and what they dislike in our streets. This was successful, so we are planning two events where we can collect more photos and comments across the whole Oval NEP area. We will also display information about the responses from Lambeth’s postcard consultation. Residents will be able to suggest design for their streets during the workshops and discuss those with the project engineer.

You can take part in two ways

  • Take up to two photos of what you like and dislike on your streets and email them to habro@lambeth.gov.uk. Please include the location of the photo and brief comment on what you like/ dislike. Your photos will be exhibited anonymously at the public events so others can add their opinions.
  • Come to one of the exhibitions and we can help you take photos, print them and put them up as part of the exhibition. Even if you don’t contribute photos you can also comment on everyone else’s photos and take part in discussions about how best to improve the streets in our area.

At both events you can talk to Lambeth’s Project Engineer. On the Saturday 20 July event, you can also talk to officers from Lambeth Living, Environmental Services and Parks and discuss ideas and plans with them.
