Section 20 Notices – May-July 2016
Here at the Tenants Association we know there have been some issues surrounding the correct issuing of Section 20 notices related to upcoming Internal and External redecoration works. Some people have raised concerns with us, and we are looking into them. Our general view is that the maintenance works are necessary and do need to be done. However it is essential that residents are kept clearly informed in a timely manner about such works. Please contact us if you would like to make us aware of your concerns. Update: after raising your concerns – and particular the proposed costs of scaffolding – TA officers have met with Hyde and walked round the Estate with them to identify where scaffolding is necessary or where the works can be carried out using cherry pickers for access. In most places cherry pickers can and will be used so the charges are being recalculated…
Oval Gasholder Site
The developers of the Oval and Kennington Development Area (OAKDA) have produced a revised masterplan, which will now be presented to the September Council Cabinet meeting on 5 September 2016. Detailed information can be found here www.oakda.co.uk and http://www.oakda.co.uk/master-plan According to the developers, Berkeley Homes in cooperation with Lambeth Council, the key points of the Masterplan are: Approximately 1,250 high quality new apartments including a mix of unit sizes and affordable dwellings. Potential to support up to 1,430 jobs, a 465% increase on the current amount. Almost 1 hectare of new public space will be created. This includes two new public squares: ‘Gas Holder Place’ and ‘The Lime Grove,’ as well as tree-lined streets and high quality landscape. Hyde Group to merge with L+Q and East Thames Housing Associations
Our landlords, the Hyde Group, have announced that they are in merger talks with L+Q and East Thames Housing Associations. We only know what is on Hyde’s website. Update! At the last TA meeting on 27 April residents expressed concern about remarks made by the CEO of the Hyde Group in press reports about the merger. Legal Advice Surgery at Stockwell
In partnership with Prime Solicitors, the Stockwell Community Centre will offer free monthly legal advice surgeries to Hyde residents and local people. Surgeries will be held on the last Monday of every month with the exception of bank holidays where the surgery will take place the Monday prior. Occurs monthly on the last Monday of every month at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Voting time! EU Referendum! Make sure your voice is heard!
The referendum on the European Union is on Thursday 23 June. This referendum is massively important. It affects every aspect of our lives – and, more importantly, our children’s lives. Residents of Kennington Park Estate vote at Henry Fawcett Primary School in Bowling Green Street. Voting hours are from 7am to 10pm. You should have received a Poll Card, but you do not need to take it with you in order to vote. If you have not received one you can check whether you are eligible to vote on 020 7926 2254, email electoralservices@lambeth.gov.uk.
